Following a highly competitive recruitment and selection process, we are delighted to announce that OPM Rugby have now appointed Davy McGregor as Head Coach for our Senior Men’s section next season.
Davy has been a player in a professional setting for clubs such as Ulster, London Irish and more recently Plymouth Albion as well as representing Ireland at U18 – U20 and A team level. Following the completion of his playing career, he coached at Tamar Saracens and Ivybridge before more recently, coaching the Plymouth University Men’s side to win the league in the 2025/26 season. He is also Director of Rugby at The Rugby Institute which is an alternative pathway for aspiring athletes.
With vast experience, sound knowledge and an excellent understanding of the game plus having a good working insight of the club already, we believe that Davy has all the right credentials and professionalism that we seek to push the club forward.
Davy has many excellent ideas, initiatives and plans for the Seniors, Colts and wider club both on and off the field which we were very impressed with at interview and as a Committee will be supporting throughout preseason and the season ahead to ensure this is a successful and progressive one for all involved.
Some of Davy’s first thoughts when accepting the role:
“After some consideration to get back into club coaching along side Plymouth University and The Rugby Institute, I’m very excited to work with a club with ambition and a passion to create a proper grassroots rugby club environment. I am positive that I can add to the environment with new ideas and opportunities for players to develop and grow.
With a great youth system growing and a senior squad that can fulfill three sides at times, there is no reason why the club can’t compete at higher levels in the future. Taking one step at a time and developing an enjoyable, accountable and competitive environment is our aim.
We are actively welcoming new and returning players to the club who are ambitious, committed and will positively add to the club.”
