OPM Rugby are sad to announce the passing away earlier this year of former player and Vice President R. Geoff Bowden who passed away peacefully at Derriford Hospital 17th. June 2021.
Geoff regularly supported the OPM’s at Elburton up to the Covid outbreak and is missed by his fellow team members and friends. He played numerous matches for OPM RFC in nearly all the forward positions and would cheerfully fill any position required to help the team. He was a true journeyman for both the 1st and 2nd teams and a real clubman.
He enjoyed 75 action packed years. After attending Plymouth College Geoff qualified as a Pharmacist and spent his working life dispensing and was fondly known as Geoff the pill. For many years he worked at the Co-op Pharmacy on Peverell Corner.
One of his other interests was surfing on the North Cornish Coast and as a contrast to that he developed an interest in Archaeology and would be called in to dig on newly discovered sites where modern building sites uncovered ancient sites. He leaves his wife Ailsa and 20 year old son Rory, who was named after the England winger at the time of his birth, Rory Underwood.
